Question:If I borrowed mezozos from a gemach to put up while mine are being checked, am I supposed to make a brocho before putting them up? Answer: Rav Yaakov Blau in Chovas Hador (Perek 1 Footnote 1) quotes the Mikdash Me’at (Siman 285 s.k. 2) who posits that there is no requirement for a person to write a mezuza himself, rather, the mezuza is similar to Tefillin where a person can be yotze the mitzva even with borrowed Tefillin. The Mikdash Me’at (ibid) explains that the reason that this is so, is because there is no mitzva to write a mezuza, but to affix a mezuza. The Minchas Chinuch (Mitzva 423) also maintains that a person can fulfil the mitzva of mezuza with a borrowed mezuza. Rav Yaakov Blau (Chovas Hador ibid) maintains that a person can also recite a brocho on a borrowed mezuza, even if the mezuza will only remain up temporarily. In summary, it is possible to fulfil the mitzva of mezuza with borrowed mezuzos and you should make a brocho on them, even if they will only remain up temporarily. |
