Question:If one has two utensils to tovel, one of the utensils definitely requires tevila, but one is unsure if the second utensil is obligated in tevilas keilim or not. Should one recite the brocho of “al tevilas keli” (singular) or “al tevilas keilim” (plural)? Answer: In this situation the most ideal is to recite “al tevilas kelim”. The reason for this is as follows: The Shulchan Aruch (Yoreh De’ah Siman 120 Se’if 3) clearly writes that when toveling a single utensil, the correct brocho to recite is “al tevilas keli” and when toveling multiple utensils the correct brocho to recite is “al tevilas keilim”. (This pertains to l’chatchilo; b’dieved one is yotze if one recited either of these two nuscha’os.) This appears to be the predominant minhag. However, several Acharonim (Knesses Hagedola, Aruch Hashulchan, Chochmas Odom) write that the minhag is to always recite “al tevilas keilim” (in the plural) even on one utensil. Therefore, even in your situation where it is doubtful whether one of the utensils being toiveled requires tevila at all, it would still be preferable to “al tevilas keilim” since according to these Acharonim this is the correct nusach even when toiveling a single utensil. |
